Having spent 3 months in the ICU, my son Srisharan, dreads being there now. My 6-year old boy seldom cries and is a very active, playful child but visiting hospitals makes him petrified.
We were a happy family but the news of our son suffering from Primary Hyperoxaluria left us in desolation. We were in complete distress for 3-4 months until we realised that this distress was having an impact on our son too. So we decided to be happy and face the hurdles with optimism. He needs an urgent kidney transplant costing Rs. 10,00,000 ($ 15,384) and we are finding it very difficult to arrange the money.
I am Suriya, mother of Srisharan, our only son. He was 2 and a half years old when he suffered a urine infection, fever, and fits. He was admitted at the Pondicherry hospital for 10 days for his treatment. The doctor said that there was sand like formation in the Kidney. We decided to consult another doctor in Chennai for another opinion. We were told by the doctor, Nammalvaar working at Child Trust Hospital, that the kidney problem can be diagnosed only after he grows up.
Last year in November was when everything took a turn for the worse. We took our son for a check-up after 10 days of vomiting and breathing difficulty and found out that both his kidneys had failed. It was devastating for us to hear that Srisharan was suffering from Primary Hyperoxaluria, a life threatening condition.
Global Hospital was recommended to us by our relatives, and our son has been under dialysis for 8 months now. Genetic test revealed that the liver lacked its enzyme which caused the kidneys to fail and it needed a transplant too.
I worked as a school teacher until last year, and my husband is working in the field of system services. Our combined monthly income is Rs 10,000 ($ 150); paying the bills seems impossible.
However, with the help of the relatives we’ve been able to arrange money for the dialysis. We are from Viluppuram but are currently staying in Chennai at our relative’s place for our son’s treatment. We’ve approached the Government for funds for liver transplant though it hasn’t been approved yet we are positive about it. We are finding it very difficult to arrange money for his transplant of kidneys which is Rs 10,00,000 ($ 23,000).
It is heart wrenching to see our child suffer and it is more horrifying that he has to go through so many transplants at such a young age.
The specifics of this case have been verified by the medical team at the concerned hospital. For any clarification on the treatment or associated costs, contact the campaign organizer or the medical team.
