After being promoted to the Cabinet rank, Union minister and Jodhpur MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has been handed over a big responsibility and the reins of the newly formed ‘Jal Shakti’ ministry.

All water-related works will be merged under one ministry,” confirmed Shekhawat after taking the charge. “The Modi government in its first term had undertaken several projects and all of them will be taken forward,” he said.

Two other MPs from the state too had taken oath as ministers of state (MoS). The new face in Modi’s team Kailash Choudhary, who has been elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time from Barmer, has been made the MoS for agriculture and farmers’ welfare. Choudhary, a Jat, is believed to have been rewarded for defeating Congress candidate and BJP rebel, Manvendra Singh, who is the son of former Union minister Jaswant Singh.
Three-time MP from Bikaner Arjun Ram Meghwal is now MoS for parliamentary affairs, heavy industries and public enterprises. Meghwal, a bureaucrat-turned-politician, was the MoS in finance ministry during Modi’s first term.

Shekhawat too was an MoS for agriculture in the first term.
